The formula for successful learning
Every time you want to learn something new, you struggle with yourself, because you don't have a process to adapt to. Well, the 70/20/10 model can help you.
Maybe you have heard of it, maybe not, maybe you put it into practice but you were not good at it, or maybe you still use it today. Whatever your reality, the 70/20/10 learning model is a powerful tool that will make it easier for you to learn new skills, which, although initially challenging, once you master it, will give you several advantages.
First of all, I must say that we can find a lot of material on this subject on the Internet, aimed at companies and organizations and their employees. However, it is applicable in the personal aspect giving you sustainable results.
Now, what is this tool about? It is basically focused on 3 elements:
Experience (70%).
Socialization (20%).
Formal training (10%).
This means that really all of us concentrate more on new knowledge in real situations because we see ourselves in the obligation to solve them making use of concepts and premises that we already handle and have in our minds.
EXPERIENCE (70%)
Most adults learn more by doing, striving, and practicing. That is why the focus of this model points to experience, because in this sense, what we seek to learn will become part of our daily tasks. It does not mean that this part is more important than the others since the 3 go hand in hand.
What is developed in this learning?
Active learning.
Problem-solving development.
Self-learning.
SOCIALIZATION (20%)
When socializing, connecting, and engaging with others, learning something from the other person is inevitable. In the interaction, a transfer of knowledge is generated, which makes this process important to appreciate new ideas and perspectives.
Don't miss out on taking advantage of the opportunity to learn from your co-workers, mentors, or other professionals. If you are looking to improve in various aspects of your life, join a circle of people who push you to be better and give more of yourself. In this way, you will grow.
FORMAL TRAINING (10%)
Although this is the element with the lowest percentage, it does not mean that it is the least important, in fact, it is considered the backbone of the entire process, since it acts as an amplifier; boosting what we have learned through experience and social interaction.
The training is ideal to become familiar with new teachings and provides various benefits, such as:
Helps develop the mindset needed to solve problems and make decisions.
Promotes confidence and personal development.
Helps achieve individual goals.
Improve communication and conflict management skills.
As you can see, the model’s objective is to incorporate the skills that allow you to increase your performance. With which you can be more efficient in anything you set your mind to. At the same time, it offers you several advantages:
It is an excellent way to retain knowledge because since you have already created a learning ecosystem, you have the tools at your disposal and it will be easier to start learning something new.
Improve your personal performance and teamwork, because you, bit by bit, are increasing your productivity and in turn, you can be complemented and teach something new to others.
This model is totally flexible so you can apply it to any aspect of your life and implement it as best suits each circumstance.
To sum it up, the 70/20/10 learning model is a fantastic way to learn new skills and enhance your performance. By spending most of your time learning on the job (70%), getting coaching and mentoring (20%), and attending formal training (10%), you can develop your talents in a comprehensive way. But remember, success with this model depends on your organization's ability to implement it effectively and provide the necessary resources. So, put in the effort, and stay dedicated, and you'll be well on your way to achieving your learning goals!
Following these parameters, I'd like to give a big shout-out to the people I've learned from. I would be applying socialization as a means of learning.
